London's famous zoological gardens increasingly focus on the world-renowned conservation aspects of its work.
Of particular note to boaters is the spectacular geodetic construction of Snowdon's Aviary, a listed structure adjacent to the Regent's Canal. Other attractions at the zoo include: the BUGS biodiversity exhibition, hoofed mammals, birds of prey, parrots, water birds, bears, hippos, apes, monkeys, reptiles and an aquarium. There is also a Children's Zoo and Pet Care Centre.
The zoo is open every day except Christmas Day. More information is avalable on 020 7722 3333.
Hourly waterbus services run from London Zoo's landing stage to both charming Little Venice (with the Warwick Castle pub) and to Camden Lock's enormously busy street market, shopping and entertainment facilities. London Zoo is also located close to Regent's Park and also the pretty Primrose Hill neighbourhood with its award-winning gastro-pubs and restaurants.
