Housed in a stunning building designed by world-famous architect Daniel Libeskind, the museum exposes the peerless collection of the Imperial War Museum to the people of the North-West. The IWM North is situated beside the Lowry art gallery in Salford Quays, Manchester.

Permanent exhibitions include:

  • The Big Picture: regular presentations with booming sound and immense projections filling the main space of the museum to convey a startling war experience.
  • Objects and artefacts: weaponry and other war paraphernalia from the two world wars and countless other conflicts.
  • Timeline: wars since 1900 chronicled in a chart along the gallery walls.
  • Themed areas: including women's work in wartime, war reporting and propaganda.

In addition, war-inspired art is regularly exhibited and there is a series of special exhibitions.
