National poet visits Anderton Boat Lift

27th Aug 2008

The 15th annual National Poetry Day is celebrated on Thursday, 9 October with the theme work.

The Anderton Boat Lift

The Anderton Boat Lift is one of only a handful of venues chosen by National Poetry Day poet-in-residence Paul Farley to illustrate his theme and give inspiration to his work.

During August, Paul will visit three different working environments around the UK – with his visit to Anderton taking place today (Wednesday 27 August).

His odyssey will take him to a power station, a farm and our very own 'Cathedral of Canals', Anderton Boat Lift. After experiencing the three different working environments, Paul will be inspired to write three poems, specially commissioned by National Poetry Day, to be unveiled on the day.

Read the poem inspired by the Anderton Boat Lift at www.nationalpoetryday.co.uk on 9 October and send it as an e-card to friends, family and work colleagues to celebration National Poetry Day.
