Cycling along the River Trent

There is generally no towpath suitable for cycling on the river. However, cycling is permitted at:

  • Shardlow to Sawley Flood Lock (3.3km): Take care - the grass towpath may be uneven.
  • Beeston Turnover Bridge to Thane Road Bridge (1km): Take care - towpath varies in width and surface quality.

Cyclists should follow the Waterways Code and have a British Waterways cycling permit, which you can download free of charge.
