River Severn

And as you'd expect from the longest river in Britain, there really is something for everyone along its banks.

The historic cities of Shrewsbury, Worcester and Gloucester are packed full of things to do. Comfortable cruising is available downstream of Stourport, where the waters are busy with motor cruisers and narrowboats. Or further upstream, you can enjoy more active boating by canoeing or rowing on these popular waters.

The Severn flows for 220 miles from Plynlimon, high in the Welsh mountains. It meanders in and out of Shropshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire, through beautiful and tranquil countryside, before finally emptying into the sea in the Bristol Channel.

The river's own tidal wave, the famous Severn Bore, is the second highest tide anywhere in the world with a range which can be in excess of 50ft (15m).
